1. Practice this week
Practice this week is at the Club. There is no practice on Monday (Memorial Day), and Friday is the first day of morning practice. See the whole practice schedule under the “Schedules” tab for times.
2. We need stroke judges!
We need stroke judges! It takes 6 stroke judge volunteers per team, per meet, to hold swim meets (2 first-half, 2 second-half, and 2 for dual confirmation during relays). Before you can volunteer as a stroke judge, you have to attend a league clinic (“long” clinic if you didn’t attend last year, or “short” clinic option if you did attend last year). The last clinic of the year is THIS SATURDAY, June 2, at the Club. Short clinic is at 7:30 AM, long clinic 8:00 AM; arrive early to park and sign in. For more information, visit: http://shrsl.org/clinics/ The clinic is free, you don’t need any prior experience, and you don’t even have to RSVP, but be sure to sign in when you arrive. We need stroke judges! (Did I say that already?)
3. Ready Bench and Age Group Parent Training -- RSVP
If you’re new to the Tarpons, or new to Ready Bench or Age Group Parent volunteering, we have an interactive information session for how-to details and examples. Training is scheduled for 4:45-5:45 PM Wednesday and Thursday (May 30-31) at the Club Pool, in the gazebo area. RSVP to [email protected] if you want training. (If I don’t hear from anyone, I won’t lug the props to the pool!) You can also read up on our website: Tarpons Volunteer Resources
4. Volunteer now – every Tarpons family
Volunteer signup continues on our website, http://www.newterritorytarpons.com, and there are still open spots for Meet #1. Every Tarpons family must sign up for 5 regular-season volunteer slots by June 11! Look under the “Meet Day” tab for complete instructions. Email [email protected] with questions about volunteering, or if you need help signing up. (FYI, if you’re waiting to sign up in hopes that we’ll run out of volunteer slots, that’s not going to happen – choose your slots now, so you don’t lose your volunteer deposit!)
5. Meet absences and meet prep
If your swimmer will be absent from a meet, we need to know! Find illustrated instructions on how to report an absence under the “Meet Day” tab on our website. The coaches start lining up heats and relays on Friday and Saturday, so let us know now!
You can find a packing list for meet essentials and details about meet logistics on the Meet Day page.
6. Quick notes
We swim in the rain, but not if there is lightning in the area. Sign up for our Remind text service for weather updates and practice delays/cancellations. If your swimmer walks or bikes to practice, have a plan for a safe and prompt ride home in case of lightning.
Save the date for a Tarpons fun event at Kendra Scott, June 7, 5-7 PM. Details to come! (Date corrected -- the event is on June 7.)
Our 2018 Tarpons team suits are available at Finish Line Sports in the Sugar Creek Shopping Center. Tell them that you are with the Tarpons, and they will help you find the right suit.
Start sending your Tarpons photos to [email protected] now for our end-of-the-year slideshow -- don’t save them until the end of the season. Photos that feature groups of swimmers are ideal. (Suggestions for awesome slide show music are also welcome. :-) ) If you want your very own copy of the team picture that we took at the party, you can order it on the “Shop” tab of our website. Only $5 for a finished 8x10 print!
First meet is only a week away! (We need stroke judges!) Go Tarpons!
